The apparent continuity of video is a methodical aggregate of fragmented histories sketched into pixels and plastic in the pursuit of life after death. Regardless of their distance in space and time, these neo cave paintings persist in reassuring us that we are not alone, and although we haven’t mastered time, at least we found a way to contain it.
When creating a video, it is important to remember that the product is not real. We only present an illusion. What is real is the shadow of imagination, offset and distant in all four dimensions. What we feel is the facilitated dance between the viewer’s mind and the minds of the artist navigating otherwise impossible channels. What persists is a post-catalytic rippling reflection reaching into the the past to smear the future with influence.
Photography is an experiment in awareness.
For the subject, it is a surrender of control, an abandonment of hourglass armor and the acknowledgement that you, like anyone else, exist beyond the boundaries of your body.
For the photographer, it is a reflection of those mystical qualities that strip a mind to bare temptation and abuse the ego into numb restlessness rooted in delusions of mastery and a masochistic drive to shake vocal cords to finely tuned dust in search of decibels.
The artist too, risks immortality.
